Powers of this world

Deuteronomy 13:1-3 - "If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, 'Let us go after other gods' --which you have not known--'and let us serve them,' you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul."

Each seeker becomes a believer as he is confronted by God and surrenders himself to God. This implies seeing there is only one True God, almighty and eternal. There is no competitor-god or lesser-god.

The real test of faith comes when you see miracles or wonders happening in the outside world; not of the Kingdom of God. My first step of change in life was when I had to make this decision. I used too believe in Palmistry and Astrology. It was not that they did not work, what was scary was that they did work. I use to read other people's palms and prophesy about 80% accurate even the events of the past. As I got deeper I did not need to look at the palm I could see the face and tell them. I soon realized that it was not me but a force that was doing it, that shook me.

When I went for counseling I asked the person about it and he told me to abandon these things and gave some scripture for reference. Although I did not understand those scriptures but since it was not of the Lord I dropped it like a hot potato. That decision changed my life. That test the Lord had put me through, by His grace I passed it.

Today I laugh at people when they talk to me about palmistry, astrology, effect of gem stones, colors etc... The people who believe in it will be affected by it; their lives will be bounded by it and ultimately destroyed by what they believe.

Anyone can make an amulet, omen, good-luck charm, promise or prediction, but shall I use the human to dictate the Divine - the fortune cookie to control the Spirit? All that flows from human mouths or from his mind must be judged in light of God and who we are. All things are judged in light of the One God and His Word.


[ Prayer for the Day ]

Father, forgive me for not having faith in you but things of this world. Help me to be discerning when I hear others give religious advice and claim of other gods, other powers or even deliver a message from You. Keep me both from blind rejection and servile acceptance. Grant me your Spirit to guild me and help me. This I ask in Jesus' Name. Amen.
