Passing through a calf cut into two

Jeremiah 34:18 - 18 And I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant, which have not performed the words of the covenant which they had made before me, when they cut the calf in twain, and passed between the parts thereof,

In the Old Testament a solemn covenant required to be sealed with blood, so an animal was killed as a gesture. When the covenant included God as witness then they would cut the animal into two and walk between them, the parties thus signifying their willingness to be themselves cut in pieces if unfaithful.

The passing of Israel through the Red (Reed) Sea was symbolic to our baptism in Jesus Christ. It required them to pass between deep waters and similarly it requires us too to pass through between our worldly understanding (reed) and our sinful ways (water) when being baptized in Christ. Thus baptism in Jesus Christ is a solemn covenant made with God as a witness. Unless one does not except oneself as a sinner one will never be able to be baptised in Jesus Christ.

If one looks in the Bible no female animal was taken for a sacrifice for sins. Also the type of animals for sacrifice were chosen with purpose and meaning.

A cow is worshipped or is an important part of many religions and that is because it symbolizes fertility. It was this reason that the golden calf was celebrated with precious metals or stones and mass sexual fanfare in Egypt like the Israelites did at the foot of Mount Sinai and 3000 were killed.

The calf does not symbolize only sexual fertility but means prosperity in all things of this world and for this reason everything connected with the cow is very useful. Even today in some countries cows are considered important assets.

To make solemn covenant with the Lord we need to pass through worldly prosperity like the people did in ancient times with calves cut into two.

People insist a Christian is blessed and also our God is a rich God so a Christians needs to be prosperous in this world.

Let me ask them even if all the riches of this world put together, all the money, all the gold, all the diamonds, all the planes, ships, cars and the skyscrapers, bungalows, castles and all that they can dream of, having all this still does not show how rich our God is? It only shows His poverty for the riches of our God is beyond imagination of man and nothing of this world can even touch it remotely. Please do not show the poverty of our God with the things of this world.

As a Christian we are given all that we need in this world and even extra but the extra needs to overflow. That means it needs to flow unto those around us. If we are not blessing those around us then we are depriving the overflow and that is not the characteristics of a Christian.

We as Christians are called to overcome for only overcomers will be rewarded in Heaven and what we overcome is the desires of the flesh and evil of this world; luxury is a desire of the flesh. We need to decide if we want the luxury here on earth or the incomprehensible luxury that awaits us in Heaven, of which all the riches of this world are not even a minute fraction.

[ Prayer Starter ]
Lord, the people of this world are far from You and your Kingdom. They desire this world and things of quest the desires of the flesh. Lord, harden not the hearts of your people but help them overcome and become overcomers. Lord, open our eyes and let us see the real spiritual world and let us not get lost in this temporary world...

This prayer we make in Jesus' Name, Amen.
