The Ancient of Days

Daniel 7:9 - I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

The term Ancient of Days is used for God. Many people think it as a term used exclusive to the God the Father but we understand this when we compare this scripture with other scriptures.

The books of Daniel and the book of Revelation together help us understand the books of the Prophets and the Gospels very well.

In Matthew Jesus confirms that it is the Son of Man who sits on the Throne but not as man, but when He comes in His glory. In John Jesus prays to the Father that He gives the glory which was before the world was created. So we see Jesus Christ the man was God the Son who humbled Himself and became man and at the end receives His glory back again. In Daniel the glorious God the Son is referred to as Ancient of Days and the man Jesus who is also known as the Son of Man is identified uniquely even though they refers to the same Being.

Throne does not refer to a human seat or chair, something we usually picture with. In scriptures the Lord says the Heaven is His Throne and earth His footstool. God is not man but spirit.

If we see in Revelation the description of 'garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool' is given to the Son of Man. If we look at other scriptures we see even the garments of the Angels are described as white as snow. Even when Jesus transfigured the similar description is attributed to Him. If we look at the book of Revelation there is a special Angel who is given extraordinary description (Revelation 1:12-16, Revelation 10:1 -3, Revelation 17:1).

When we look at the book of Daniel there is an Angel who is given the aspects of a man (Daniel 12:5-10). In the tenth chapter (Daniel 10:20-21) there is the Arch Angel or Chief of Princes - Michael who battles Satan(s) (princes of Persia and of Greece). Revelation (Revelation 12:7-8) confirms this event. Then in chapter 12 (Daniel 12:1-3) we read and Arch Angel Michael shown as the saviour of the people and when He comes at the end days there is the Book of Life opened and those who are asleep resurrect and are judged, something that is attributed with Jesus Christ's coming the second time. Paul also states this event in his first letter to Thessalonians (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

When the Pharisees questioned Jesus about Him being greater than Abraham, Jesus answer something that angers them very much. He said Abraham saw Him and was pleased. The Lord came as man Jesus only after being born through Mary so whom did Abraham see?

John while ending the Gospel makes a statement saying all that Jesus did if were written the world could not hold those books. John was not using a superlative word, immaturely, out of context. What he said he meant.

It is only when we know our Lord Jesus Christ would we know the sacrifice He has done for us. We get moved by the exhibition of the suffering which we see on the crucifix when Jesus died, but we do not see all that He had done from the foundation of earth when He humbled Himself for us so as to save us. Neither His sacrifice nor His love can be ever measured by any human.

[ Prayer Starter ]
Lord, man lacks faith because he walks by sight, what we see we believe. The teachings of the world have bound our minds that we do not hear what the Spirit speaks. Lord people do not know your sacrifice therefore do not have the smallest idea of your love. They are far from You because the worldly corrupt knowledge keeps them away. Lord, renew the minds of your people that they may know You and have power in You...

This prayer we make in Jesus' Name, Amen.
