The Year of Release

Mark 15:6 - Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.

In today's message we find that due to a custom of the Jews they were thinking of whom to release. Now we need to understand Pilate was not a Jewish authority but a Roman authority, a person assigned by the Romans to govern the people of Jerusalem.

Now if it was not a mandatory custom of the Jews the Romans would not have abided by it. And we know only the Law of Moses were mandatory for the Jews and they would never compromise with the Laws (customs) of Moses. When I went through the instructions given by the Lord unto Moses for the people there was a law which was called the year of release it was every seven years.

The Lord had instructed the people every seven years they were to release many things and among them was the instruction to release the bonded person of Hebrew origin. This custom called the people to symbolically release a prisoner on the Passover every seventh year. It was on the seventh year the year of release that Jesus was arrested and decided along with Barabbas on who to be released and set free. The name Barabbas means son of a father.

Today's message tells us we were the children of Adam and were under the curse of our father Adam. On that day on the year of release Jesus the only Son of God was arrested and crucified so that we could be released.

We are not just released from dead. We are also released from all bondages. We are released to have provision provided not by our own labour or by our efforts but by provision of the Lord. We are release from the debits of sin and all other kinds of debits. We are released from poverty. We are released from the bondages of hatred. We are released from oppression of people. The best part of the release is not that we are just released, but according to the Word of the Lord we are not sent empty handed but are set free with the blessings of Abraham on us.

Let us thank the Lord Jesus Christ not only for our release abut also remember we are no longer poor but rich according to the Kingdom of God, for the abundant blessings of father Abraham is on us.

[ Prayer Starter ]
Lord, we thank You for our release. The day we come unto You with repentance and accept You as Lord and Master is the day and year of our released. We also thank You for not releasing us empty handed but with the abundance of your Kingdom. Lord we pray for all those of your Kingdom who have not yet not received your release, may they accept the dead and resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ in their lives and may they experience their release...

This prayer we make in Jesus' Name, Amen.

[ Reference Scriptures ]
Mark 15:6-15
6 Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.
7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.
8 And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.
9 But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.
11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.
12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?
13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.
14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.
15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

The Word of God was given free to us, therefore we should also share it freely with others.
