Know the Lord and His Word is life

1 John 1:1-3
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Yesterday as I was discussing with my office staff member, in between our discussion she asked me how I manage to convert people. She even went on to ask me if I have some power which I cast on them.

I told her all that I do, is make people think and nothing else. I make them to open their eyes and see what they believe in and where it is going to lead them.

This lady has been evading me since long to talk about life and about God. I have been waiting patiently for the right moment to bring her from darkness to light. She is a Hindu and as a Hindu she pursues death and not life. A Hindu thinks life is a Cakra (ring/circle) one is born and when one dies according to their deeds (Karma) they are born again in various life forms. Like we Christians pursue salvation which is eternal life with God, they pursue Mukti which is freedom from the Cakra, meaning freedom from being born again - in other words they want to die and not be born again - in other words they pursue eternal death.

In today's message we read among other characteristics of God, one of them is that God is life. When we pursue life we automatically are pursuing God. If we are not pursuing God then we are not pursuing life, for from God comes life and He alone sustains all life.

Another very important thing John states is the only way to life is through the Word of God, he goes to the extent of calling it the Word of Life. We also see the Angels use the same term for the Word of God in the book of Acts.

In today's message John tried to recreate the first lines of his Gospel in a simpler way. To understand the basics of the Lord Jesus Christ we need to just understand these 3 lines of today's message.

God is telling us in today's message we cannot disassociate God and His Word, for God is life and His Word is life so to have life we need to have God and to have God we need to have His Word, thus any person not pursuing God's Word is not pursuing God and therefore not pursuing life, he or she instead is pursuing death.

[ Prayer Starter ]
Lord, many people pursue You but do not desire to keep your Word. They think they can reach You without your Word. They do not understand You and your Word are one and without your Word none can come to You or receive eternal life. Lord, we pray people are founded not on deceit but on the Truth which is your Word...

This prayer we make in Jesus' Name, Amen.

Acts 5:19-20
19 But an angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them out, and said,
20 Go ye, and stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this Life.

John 1:1-14
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The Word of God was given free to us, therefore we should also share it freely with others.
