Follow the Shepherd

Psalm 23:1 - The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

When I was not in the Lord was dwelling in the suburbs of being a Christian, I use to get uncomfortable with this scripture. I use to think why do people say 'The Lord is my shepherd whom I do not want'?

Then I latter realized that the meaning was, when the Lord is my shepherd I will not have any wants, all my needs will be fulfilled by Him. You may laugh at this but let me ask you, can you look at your own situation and ask yourself. Are you fighting to meet your needs? Is everyday life a challenge for you? Are you insecure about your near future, forget the far off future. Yet most of us profess this scripture.

When Jesus said I am the Good Shepherd, He said it as Christ - 'the Anointed One' in whom the Spirit dwelled. Now, when Jesus told us that He is going away to the Father yet most of us ask Jesus to lead us. Jesus has given us His Spirit - 'the Helper' who is the Lord who leads us and our Shepherd. Jesus as man was an example of perfection, for He was without want since He was full of the Holy Spirit.

Ask yourself are you following the Shepherd? Let alone follow, do you acknowledge Him in your everyday life?

He is just besides you stretching His hands out to hug you and comfort you, to guide you and protect you, saying to you - 'child I am here for you'. Are you going to respond to your Shepherd?

[ Prayer Starter ]

Lord God, forgive me for not acknowledging You in my everyday life. There were many times when problems came to crush me and You reached out your hands to save me and I did not respond. Yet You did not let me be destroyed by me problems. Let me from today be aware that You are in me and with me and I do not need to fear anything or anybody of this world. You are my Shepherd and my guide, my mother, my father, my provider and protector, I surrender to You. Amen.

Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

The Word of God was given free to us, therefore we should also share it freely with others.
