Blessed are the poor in spirit

Matthew 5:3 - Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Today's message is one of the first beatitudes and I like the word broken be-attitudes. It gives us the attitude we need to have. And the first attitude is to be poor in spirit.

Being 'poor in spirit' does not mean to be lacking in spirit, but knowing how much one lacks.

The Kingdom of God is an endless river of fresh live giving water and a person needs to dwell by it to live. The moment a person says this one bottle or these bottles which I have filled will survive me for life it shows the foolishness of that person and such fools surely die.

We should always acknowledge what we have in sense of spiritual and worldly understanding and ability is very limited. A scientist will never say he knows everything in science and he does not need to discover more. Every scientist knows the breadth and depth of science is limitless and what he or she found is just the foundation of a greater understanding.

If this is the attitude of those of this world then imagine what should be our attitudes who are dwellers of the spirit world from which manifests the physical world and which is countless times more than this physical world.

In spirit whatever we have today and we know today has just opened a new door to a bigger room from which we receive and enter another room. Knowing the real limits of the unlimited Kingdom of God is also called the Fear of the Lord, thus being poor in spirit means having fear of the Lord.

Comparing to the Kingdom of God we are below poverty line just beggars, whom the Lord calls as My sons.

[ Prayer Starter ]
Lord, we thank You for making us citizens of your Kingdom by your Son Jesus Christ. Lord help us know the depth of what we lack for we know that we do not stand anything with comparison to Jesus Christ Who has humbled Himself below the Angels, then we can imagine what the Angels are? And the Angels being the elementary beings of Heaven then we may not be able to imagine what the higher being would be. You Lord are beyond boundaries of the imagination of all mankind put together. We praise and worship You for You are our God...

This we declare in Jesus' Name, Amen.

The Word of God was given free to us, therefore we should also share it freely with others.
