The Lord alone is our Rock of Salvation

1 Samuel 2:2 - There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

There is one word which is least understood in the Bible and that is the word Holy. Most people confuse it with being righteous or being good.

We read this word is by which God is honoured in Heaven by the Cherubs as the Lord takes His Throne (comes in glory).

The seriousness of this word can be only understood by understanding the word 'good' in the NT. The word good seem a normal English word that speaks of a level of comparison. But in the Gospels we read of an incident when a person calls Jesus good and Jesus rebukes the man saying only the Father in Heaven is good. This word is not the good we understand in English. The Greek word for good is 'kalos' but the word which the person used in this incident is 'agathos'. In the New Testament Jesus alone used the word kalos the most and Paul also does use this word mostly in Romans to describe the things of God. In Ephesians 5:9 Paul states this as a Fruit of the Holy Spirit, but keeps it along with Righteousness and Truth as separate from the other nine other Fruits which he listed in Galatians 5:22-23.

The word Holy is described as being sanctified or separated to God. God again and again tells us to be Holy for He is Holy.

Some of the Christians put hallows around people to show they are holy, but the reality is none of us can be Holy, we can only pursue Holiness same like Righteousness and Truth for these Fruits are beyond the reach of man that is why Paul did not include them in the list in Galatians. But God made it possible for man to receive them through His sacrifice. That does not mean now we can have Holiness, Righteousness and Truth. We need to understand by the sacrifice God made it possible for man to receive His Spirit and it is by the working of the Spirit of Truth in us that we receive the Fruit of Truth. It is only after Truth in us, do we receive the Fruit of Righteousness from the Son and then the Fruit of Holiness from the Father.

We should remember unless we do not pursue them we will not receive them, that means as we grow in knowledge and understanding of God and His Kingdom, we need to walk in that understanding and separate ourselves from things that are not of the Kingdom of God. If man tries to be righteous or holy without knowing the truth, it is not possible. That is why we read in Romans since none were found righteous that the Lord had to humble Himself and come as man to pay the price so that His Spirit may dwell with man.

God is telling us today if we need to be righteous and holy unto God we need to know the truth, and we cannot know the truth with our wisdom or knowledge, for that we need His Spirit. So it is only by our accepting the sacrifice of Jesus Christ we receive His Spirit and by our surrendering to the Spirit of God and letting Him reveal the truth unto us and letting Him by His Spirit help us walk in His truth can we pursue holiness. That is why the Lord is called the Rock of our salvation.

[ Prayer Starter ]
Lord, many of us try to be Christians but they do not understand none can be Christians, for it is You who make us Christians when in surrender to You and let You be seated on the throne of our hearts. Lord, help us pursue truth, righteousness and holiness so that we may be part of You when You come in glory...

This prayer we make in Jesus' Name, Amen.

Revelation 4:8 - And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

Matthew 19:17 - And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Ephesians 5:9 - (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Leviticus 11:44 - For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Romans 3:9-26
9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:
16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:
17 And the way of peace have they not known:
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

The Word of God was given free to us, therefore we should also share it freely with others.
