Called to be Kings and Sons

Ezra 6:10 - That they may offer sacrifices of sweet savours unto the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons.

I had received this message last Sunday for my Bible class and took this in depth at the session which was of about 2hours. I will attend to this same here in a very short way.

Jesus was allowed to be crucified by the Romans mainly for reason He called Himself 'King' and the Jews crucified Him for calling Himself 'Son of God'.

Christians in general associate both these titles to Jesus, which without doubt belongs to Him. But the question I like to ask is He the only one who holds these titles of King and Son of God?

The story of Jesus as man claiming Kingship starts during the times of Samuel when the people of Israel had no king; it was the Lord who led them. But these people wanted to be like the other people of the world who had a human leading them as king. So they rejected God as king and asked of Him for a human king. The Lord obliged them, but with a heavy heart for He knew there was no man worthy to lead His people. Later the Lord Himself came as man Jesus to claim back His position as king. The story does not end here.

Coming to the title 'Son of God', when God made man he had the image of God in him, the spirit man was identical as the Angels but lower than the Angels because he dwelled in the flesh, the Angels are called sons of God. Later when the image in man got corrupted due to sin man lost the title of son of God. Due to the curse of God the corrupt image of Adam got passed from generations to generations of Adam through the father. Jesus was born out of man but was yet born without corruption for He was not born from a human father but only a human mother. So being born without the corruption He was the only Son of God and He by the power of the Holy Spirit remained uncorrupted and thus had victory over the corruption and remained Son of God. Here too the story does not end here.

Lord came as man Jesus not just to claim His position as King and show man He can have victory over corruption (the work of Satan). If we read Genesis when God created man He had given man dominion (as king / ruler) over all the world and over every beast (being, not just animal but also over every spiritual being) that dwell in this world. Due to sin and corruption of the image of God in him, he lost this dominion or kingship and creation became his enemy.

The Gospel of John says Jesus Christ came to make us back into sons of God by giving us His Spirit. By His sacrifice (payment for our sins/breaking the covenant) making peace between man and God, by the working of the Spirit in us and by the revelation of the Truth we will become overcomers of the corruption get back the uncorrupted image and become sons of God once again. Once the image of God is restored in us and we become sons of God we also are restored the dominion we had in the beginning, thus we are also restored our kingship.

So we see Jesus came just not to become our King but to restore kingship to us and to make us sons and kings once again. Man did not realize God had made each and every one among them kings but yet they ask God for a king. God is not king but He is King of kings and Lord of Lords. Jesus as man is King and is referred to as Prince / Commander of kings. But when He retails back His glory as God the Son, becoming God He becomes King of Kings that is why He as the humbled Lamb (not as a human) is called Kings of kings and Lords of Lords.

[ Prayer Starter ]
Lord, You made us sons and kings, but looking at the world we like to be like them and do not realize our own value. Lord we pray we separate ourselves from the ways of the world and by the help of your Spirit live a life according to your Word, that we overcome corruption in us by the Truth of your Word becoming complete in us. Lord let us know that You came to give us authority not just like ministers of a king but as kings. Lord, it is not You but we who will crush the head of Satan under our feat as Kings and as Sons of God...

This prayer we make in Jesus' Name, Amen.
