Mark 1: 34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
‘Satan’ is a Hebrew word, and the Greek word is ‘Santanas’, both meaning adversary. The term devil is seen only in the NT, and the Greek word used is ‘diabolos’, which means accuser.
What people do not realize the term Satan is not a singular word, but a plural word. It is not like God as in Father, Son and Spirit – they being one. Here, Satan is not one character but 2 Cherubs as main characters and a whole lot of angels.
It was only when the Lord revealed to me understanding of the beings of Heaven that I came to see the king of Tyrus and prince of Tyrus (Ezekiel 28), dragon and beast (Revelation), serpent and young lion (Psalms 91), gorilla and crocodile (Job); these are a few references given to the two fallen cherubs. They being part of the six Heavenly Cherubs and in charge of hosts of Angels, their fall ended with the fall of one third of the Angels and the coming of darkness. Man was made to be the light in that darkness. Our battle is not just overcoming sin but its root, the darkness/evil ignited by Satan and their angels, we are called to fight a Heavenly battle and the Angels are there to back us. We being in the front not behind.
Satan/devils hates us because they know why we are made, and though they cannot save themselves, they do not want us to receive what God has intended for us. They can harm our bodies or corrupt our souls, but only God can and has the power to end any spirit/life. What they do is corrupt us and thus let the wrath of God fall on us and destroy us. So when Jesus said fear not the ones who kill your natural bodies but fear the one who can kill the spiritual body, He was not referring to Satan or their goons but God.
Here we see Jesus prevented evil spirits, fallen angels, from speaking and causing damage with what they speak. What may interest people to know is that evil spirits rarely lie; rather, they speak the truth, but twist it to destroy their target. Satan in the Garden of Eden did not lie to Eve but questioned her belief and played with her doubt to lead her and Adam to sin against God and bring them into the wrath of God.
I have heard many cases of Pastors/Preachers doing deliverances and being embarrassed in front of people when the evil spirit discloses their wrongs.
Here in today’s scripture, Jesus bound the spirits and then rebuked them. He did not fear them disclosing any wrong about Him, for He was without blemish. He feared they would disclose things of Him not known to man at that time, like we read in the same Gospel of Mark 3:11. What they said even today is kept hidden, for even the translators err in their translations. We need to have a good foundation so as to understand greater things of His Kingdom.
This Sunday I am to preach at the anniversary of a group of Churches and God has given me the topic to speak on the treasures of Heaven. My fear is not what to say, for my belly is like a spring of fresh water, since God has revealed many awesome things to me. I fear that I do not do the work of Satan by sharing things that will destroy them instead of building them. That does not mean I give them junk food like most Preachers do, for that too will destroy them.
Jesus knew the Truth but when it came to speaking to the general public, He spoke only in parables. Even to His Apostles and core disciples, He gave them baby food and never did He give them meat. But when it came to the Sadducees, He answered them with counter questions, for He knew the hardness of their hearts; for they were filled with worldly knowledge. Paul, too, restricted himself to milk in his letters, and those who were not on milk, like the people of Berea, he did not need to write to them.
Let us build a firm foundation so that the Holy Spirit reveals more and more of the Kingdom of God to us and Satan has no power over us.

Lord, You are Almighty God. You are Truth, and there is no darkness in You. Darkness came with the falling of one-third of the Heavenly beings. You made man to be the light that overcomes darkness. Ours is a Heavenly battle not just earthly. Lord, we pray that we understand the importance and also the value of Truth. We pray we diligently seek the Truth and know how to share it to build them and not be an agent of Satan by accusing them before God by being blunt…
