1 Thessalonians 1: 2, 3 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
The Bible says our journey in Christ is a race, which is true, but the problem is that people need to realise the race is a relay, and not an individual one. In a relay, one cannot run alone but must hand off to the next person. Since we are not competing against one another, but to complete the race, God in His mercy has allowed one runner to hand over multiple baits to multiple runners, which makes us sure winners.
When we witness Christ and build others in Christ we are continuing our race even when we are asleep in Him. The person we hand over to can run ahead of us only when we build them better than us, if we build them as us or lesser than us than they will be running with us or behind us, than we will not move ahead to complete the race. Thankfully the Holy Spirit helps us or those whom we have given the bait to, to progress in the race, otherwise we all would be running in the same place and never moving ahead.
In my spiritual life journey, I have been asked twice to confront large Church organisations (one of the key members), like Nathan was sent to confront David (his whole kingdom paid for it). The first, although a Pentecostal Church (many years back) were more into organisational factors and financial management than into the Kingdom of God. When they failed my confrontation, the Lord split them into multiple groups, telling me He would build/teach them as smaller groups. Being a very large group had got them into an ungodly atmosphere.
The second group (of late), whom I was told to confront, is more into works and takes pride in all the activities they do as a Church (which I too liked). But I was surprised when the Lord told me they were not building anyone; they were shown to me like giants (9 feet tall) but with teenage faces. The Lord told me He would bring the fear of God within them.
Let us, as a Church, understand the seriousness of building others. When we build them, we too become stronger. We need to get the race going forward and not running in the same place. Let us get it into us that just praying will not save the world; praying opens doors and enables us to do what we are called to do, so we still have to do it.
[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You are a Merciful God. You, Lord, knew none of us could complete the race; thus made us a body, so that we run it together. Lord, we pray we understand the rules of the race and thus build others more than us so that You come quickly and we are gathered unto You quickly…
This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
