Amos 4: 1, 2 Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that [are] in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink. The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.

The word ‘kine’ refers to a cow, and Bashan means ‘fruitful’. You may wonder what the title ‘prosperity gospel’ has to do with the cow of Bashan.

The cow is a symbol of fertility and is worshipped by many religions. Adding the word ‘Bashan’ to it makes it something like ‘fruitful business’, where greater profit is the main agenda. Interestingly, fish is also similar to a cow, for it comes from a root word meaning ‘increase’. We are called to seek spiritual increase and not earthly. Earthly essential provisions are what we are called to be contented with.

Today, people celebrate Valentine’s Day, a day they celebrate love. God is saying the greatest love of people is wealth, riches, material processions and not the Lord, or even people.

Although the number of Christians grew through the evangelical era/Church of Sardis, which was between 1700 AD and 2017 AD, we saw that the Evangelist’s focus was more on gaining wealth than saving souls. Now that we have moved to Philadelphia, the Lord is going to bring correction, and all those who still seek prosperity/preach the prosperity gospel will be dealt with very unsympathetically. In other words, there will be a recession that will hit people’s profitability, forcing them to live on bare essentials.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You, Lord, are Spirit and Your Kingdom is Spiritual. You command us to seek You in Spirit and Truth and all other things will be provided to us. We pray we do not seek the all other things rather than seeking You in Spirit and Truth. We pray we bring correction rather than we taken with fishhooks in our nostrils…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

[Reference Scriptures]
Colossians 3:5-6
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

1 Timothy 6:7-12
7 For we brought nothing into [this] world, [and it is] certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and [into] many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Matthew 6: 24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
