Luke 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

The OT is mostly about the Israelites/Jews, and the NT, people do not realize is about the Gentiles (non-Jews). The promise/call/invite was given to the Jews, and since they rejected it went out to the Gentiles, who accepted it. Coming to Jerusalem, the Bible moves from earthly Jerusalem to the Heavenly Jerusalem. As spoken in today’s scripture, the Heavenly Jerusalem will come after the destruction of the earthly Jerusalem.

When the Bible talks of Jerusalem, it does not always refer to the place. As in today’s scripture, it does not refer to the earthly place but to a spiritual state. Jerusalem is the spiritual state of growth; we are called to strengthen our spiritual lives, and it comes through pruning that which is not good or that which slows us down.

Jerusalem means ‘teaching of peace’. Teaching is given to change, and peace is not an inert state; peace requires changes in us as time passes. It is like a tree that bears fruit, so it requires watering and nourishment.

What may shock people this process of changing does not stop when we enter Heaven; only the level there is different from that we are going through while in the flesh. In Heaven, we enter the Heavenly Jerusalem where, if we err, there is no second chance, as we experience now. This is written in Isaiah chapters 65, 66 as the New Earth, New Heavens.

It is sad to see that people are not susceptible to change. They want a life that remains stagnant and does not evolve. They do not realise that the term life means change/growth and no change means no life.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. Lord, You, alone are Holy/Perfect, and there is no one other than You. Lord, we pray we understand we are to have life, we need to grow, and we need to seek perfection, we need to seek holiness. We pray that we make change a part of our lives and let Your Spirit guide us and help us through the various areas of change…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Isaiah 65:17-25

Isaiah 66:22-24
22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass, [that] from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.
