Luke 7:27 This is [he], of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

When it comes to fireworks in the OT, there is none like Elijah; he raised the Dead (1 Kings 17:17-24), multiplied food (1 Kings 17:14), parted the Jordan River (2 Kings 2:8), caused a drought and later brought rain (1 Kings 18-19, calling of fire from heaven on the altar (1Ki 18:38), calling fire from heaven upon soldiers (2Ki 1:10,12), being taken up in a whirlwind (2Ki 2:11)…

Elisha, his student, who received his double anointing, did what Elijah did and more. This included the curse of the she bears (2Ki 2:24), cursing Gehazi with leprosy (2Ki 5:27), smiting the Syrian army with blindness (2Ki 6:18), seven-year famine (2Ki 8:1). Elisha was not taken up like Elijah, but when he died, his bones brought another dead back to life.

Elijah came as John the Baptist not only to fulfil the prophecy of Isaiah but also to repent for his arrogance and that which he induced in Elisha. Elijah was held responsible not only for his deeds but also that of the one whom he mentored. Only if today’s preachers, pastors, and leaders understand that will they tremble with fear.

The repentant lifestyle of John the Baptist can only be understood when we understand Elijah, and that he was the only Prophet rebuked by Jesus, but also praised the most after he repented as John.

We will not get another chance like Elijah, so if we are doing ministry and vessels to bless people, let us not forget we are simply vessels and we cannot divert from the purpose of God, for our own greed or even if we are offended in any way.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You are Holy, Righteous God, but You are also Merciful and Love. In Your Mercy, You bear our iniquities and help us to change. Lord, we pray we understand Your purpose and work towards it, lifting Your Name every time…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

54 And when his disciples James and John saw [this], they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?
55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men s lives, but to save [them]. And they went to another village.

John 1:23 He said, I [am] the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.

Matthew 11:11-14
11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14 And if ye will receive [it], this is Elias, which was for to come.
