John 1: 47, 48 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

When we read commentaries on today’s scriptures, we find most of them, without realising it, state that the Lord did not humble Himself by claiming He exhibited His omnipresent characteristics.

Those who are gifted with dreams and visions will testify that sometimes they have seen the future like a video, even before it happens. So Jesus, as a man, was 100 per cent man, and all that He did is what we too can do if we grow spiritually.

Yesterday, my daughter asked about Luke 19:23, which has the Lord saying He would have preferred the person putting the money in a bank for interest instead of burying it. People assume banks existed then.

The word translated as ‘bank’ is the Greek word for ‘table’. In the 4th BC, they started currency exchange/Forex, which also lent money at interest. This was not done by Jews/Israelites since they were forbidden to lend money for interest; if they did, they were considered sinners/outcasts. If another Jew took a loan, they could not even ask for it back after 7 years, but simply write it off.

These tables/systems later gave birth to commercial banks in the 13th century, where the general public deposited money and earned part of the interest. So when the Lord said this in Luke 19:23, He said if He had given the Gift of the Spirit to an unbeliever, at least He would have earned praises if not growth.

Let us not jump to conclusions when we read the Bible, but investigate every word; it is only then that we will have a proper understanding, without losing Heavenly treasures.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You are One God, and there is none other than You. You humbled Yourself and created all that exists, the Heavens and our creation included. Lord, we pray that we understand Your plans for us, so that we do not be deceived by vanity…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

1 At the end of [every] seven years thou shalt make a release.
