1 John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship [is] with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n
Today\u2019s scripture speaks of two kinds of fellowship: one within ourselves and one with God, that is, the Father and His Son, Lord Jesus Christ. What is important is that John (the Evangelist) says the second fellowship is of greater importance than the first; he uses the word \u2018truly\u2019; that means, without the first, the second is meaningless.<\/p>\n
The Greek word for fellowship used is \u2018koinonia\u2019, which means communion \/ to interact; it is not about spending time doing any activity, but comes from the word \u2018koinonos\u2019, which means partaker and roots from the word koinos, which means to be common (these are conjugations of the root word).<\/p>\n
To have fellowship means to know each other well. It is not about having fun; it is about interacting with each other and sharing our personal relationship with the Lord. When we do that, we know each other at a spiritual level. Therefore, it is not about knowing what one does professionally or socially; we can do that as an icebreaker, but the spiritual connection is of utmost importance.<\/p>\n
Let us not do what other religions do, that is, build social\/earthly bonds in the name of fellowship; we are called to build spiritual bonds, for our Heaven is not earthly but a spiritual world.<\/p>\n

\nLord, You are Almighty God. Lord, You are One God. You have commanded us to be one as You are One. Lord, we pray that we understand what it means to be one. We pray we do not fool ourselves into being one with social interaction, but bear our spirits to each other so that we are one right at the foundation, like You are One. May You be that foundation, that unshakable foundation…<\/p>\n
