And the same hour I looked up upon him.

Today’s scripture records Paul’s testimony about how the Lord used a little-known man named Ananias to restore his sight.

If we look up the Greek text, the words translated as ‘receive thy sight’ and ‘looked up’ are the same. So what happened is Ananias told Paul to look up, and Paul looked up with sight restored. These details were not shared by Luke when it happened (Acts 9), but recorded when Paul witnessed it.

Why am I going into these unnecessary details?
What we need to see is that Ananias saying ‘look up’ instead of ‘receive your sight’ required greater faith. Ananias was told Paul would receive his sight back, so Ananias did not take it on himself as being the one to restore the sight, so he did not say ‘receive your sight’; he knew the Lord had done it, and all he needed to do was be there, so he simply said ‘look up’. Ananias knew it was the Lord who was behind Paul becoming blind, and it was the Lord who sent him to be an instrument in his restoration. More than the eyes, the Lord had worked on his heart, thus calling the greatest enemy of the Christians a ‘brother’.

Imagine saying to a blind person to ‘look up’; it requires very strong faith. If it were one of our current TV Evangelists, you would find them shouting things like ‘I speak restoration of your sight’, ‘let light shine in the darkness of your eyes’, ‘I rebuke the powers of darkness’…

When our faith is strong, then things will manifest greatly. Let us believe the Lord without dramatising it like Ananias. This simple act of Ananias must have affected Paul to make his faith also strong.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You, Lord, are an awesome God, and Your ways are magnificent. Lord, we pray that we understand it is You who works through us miracles and great wonders. Lord, we pray we know we are simple vessels…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

[Reference Scriptures]
Acts 9:10-18
10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I [am here], Lord.
11 And the Lord [said] unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for [one] called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,
12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting [his] hand on him, that he might receive his sight.
13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.
15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name s sake.
17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, [even] Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

Dated 24 April 2026
Bro Rollwyn

Acts 22:13 Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight.
