Mark 8:32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
After Jesus spoke about His suffering and death to His disciples, we find Peter taking Jesus aside and rebuking Him. It was not a plea to Him not to do it, but more of a shout. To this, we find Jesus looks at His disciples (He was aware they could hear it) and rebukes Peter back saying, ‘Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men’.
We see Jesus compares the counsel of man to that of Satan.
We see in the world that people often equate moral principles with humane principles, or vice versa. They do not realise moral principles do not change despite the situation, but over time, humane principles have.
Humane values and principles have improved in many areas, and at the same time deteriorated in many other areas. We find improvement in areas like Civil Rights, Environmental Consciousness, Animal Welfare, and Mental Health Awareness… but then deterioration in areas like Attention Span & Patience (driven by short-form digital media and instant gratification), Interpersonal Connection, Truth & Objective Reality, Civic Empathy & Polarisation…
So we see the more important factors we have deteriorated, and in some places, under the excuse of civil rights, we are included immortal things.
So if people call a Christian inhumane, be not surprised, but be cautious of any Christian who is known for fostering humane values. We as Christians are called to stand on moral values which are stated in the Bible and not humane values; for in the guise of humane, we find Satan doing his work.
[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You, Lord, are Truth and You never change, for Truth never changes. Lord, we pray we do not be fooled by humane values but be rooted in the Truth which is the Word of God. As humans, we are called to die so that the divine in us lives forever. Flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God…
This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
