Mark 13:19 For [in] those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
When one speaks to theologians about today’s scripture, half of them will say it was fulfilled in 70 AD when the Romans attacked Jerusalem, and the other half will say it is about the days before Judgment Day. Interestingly, both are right.
In fact, the scripture speaks of not just two incidents but of three.
Adolf Hitler, a staunch Catholic, played with the lives of the Jews while torturing them during World War I, but the Romans just blindly, brutally slaughtered all Jews who were present in Jerusalem. They did not leave the women or children; irrespective of age or gender, they were just murdered. They crucified all they could as the wood lasted and then simply killed the rest.
Just before Judgment Day, after the people of God finish the mission given unto them (the incident of 2 witnesses), Satan is released; the fallen angels will be allowed to destroy the people of God. Many speak of this period as a long period, but as per my understanding, it will be a very, very short. Although it is short, it will be most gruesome; like in 70 AD none of the Believers will be spared.
There is another period of great affliction, and a period we have stepped into since 2017. This period is of many years (50+ years) of disasters, what we have seen till now is just the beginning. Many prophecies like the Sun and Moon not being visible for a long period, meteorite hitting earth, multiple pandemics, global famines, earthquakes and volcanoes, etc. speak of the period which we are in and not of the period before Judgment Day.
In 70AD those who abided in the Word (followed the warning) were saved the rest perished, the same will be during the period we are in and the period just before Judgment Day.

Lord, You are Almighty God. You Lord are Merciful God. In Your Mercy You gave is time to change and did not destroy us immediately. You even made a way for us to escape damnation. Lord we pray we see Your Word warns us and also helps us prepare for the days ahead. We pray we abide in Your Word and do not cause our lives to be victims of vanity…
