Luke 7:28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

John the Baptist was Elijah, who was taken up and had not seen death. As Elijah, he is known as the greatest Prophet amongst men because he alone did almost all the miracles that Moses or Jesus did. But before the Lord, he as John the Baptist, is considered greater because he repented of the things he did as Elijah, and humbled himself before the Lord. His life of repentance was the reason for the things he did as Elijah. Elijah is the only Prophet rebuked by Jesus, but as John, was greatly praised by Jesus

In today’s scripture, we see Jesus say we can also be greater than John the Baptist in the Kingdom, and the way to that is to be the least.

To be least does not mean to be nothing. The word used here does not refer to quality but to quantity. It comes from the word less (as in numbers).

To be the least is about putting others before you; it also does not mean putting yourself behind. It is about giving priority to others more than we give priority to ourselves. We should realise it is less of me, I, or mine, and whatever we do should be about building the Body of Christ and ourselves. The Spiritual Gifts we ask for or the things of the Kingdom which we seek, should be more for the benefit of the Body of Christ than to make ourselves better.

It may sound easy, but believe me, it is not; it requires a lot of sacrifice, and without love (the will to benefit others, which we learned yesterday) and understanding, it is not possible.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You, Lord, are Spirit and Your Kingdom is a Spirit world. You look less at the external and more at the internal. You see our thoughts and value our hearts more than anything. Lord, we pray we understand although our personal salvation is our personal choice, yet for the salvation of mankind we need to be one body, thus we need to build each other for its success…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

[Reference Scriptures]
Luke 9:54-55
54 And when his disciples James and John saw [this], they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?
55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.

Luke 1:17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Matthew 11:14 And if ye will receive [it], this is Elias, which was for to come.

Matthew 25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, In as much as ye did [it] not to one of the least of these, ye did [it] not to me.

Luke 12:23-26
23 The life is more than meat, and the body [is more] than raiment.
24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
