Acts 22: 16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

In today’s scripture, Paul was not physically asleep, such that he needed to be told to arise. We also see a relationship being created between baptism and the washing away of sins, and all this is done by calling on the Name of the Lord.

I have mentioned many a time before that baptism is not just about being dipped in water; the Greek word was a term used for dyeing of cloth, thus what is more important than the dip is taking on the nature of what we are dipped in. We are not actually baptised in water (that is just symbolism) but are baptised in the Name of Jesus Christ, which is also the Name of the Father and of the Holy Spirit, for the Name is not a phonics sound but refers to the character or nature, which is the same for all three. So calling on the Name does not mean to speak it but to live it.

Coming to washing, it does not speak of removing stains like that of washing clothes, but uses a medical term used for washing a wound. Forgiveness does mean restoration; it is the starting stage for the process of restoration. Restoration happens with repentance, which is the same as baptism, for repentance is correction, and in baptism we take on the nature of Christ when we put on (calling on) the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ/The Father/The Holy Spirit. We start the process of restoring the image of God in us to become Sons of God.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You, Lord, are Perfect, for Your Name is Perfect/Holy, and none is like You. Lord, we pray that we seek holiness by living Your name, which was manifested in our Lord Jesus Christ as man on earth. Lord, we pray we seek repentance and not just forgiveness, so that we perfect our baptism in You…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Romans 6:3,4
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
