Mark 14:9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, [this] also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
We see many Preachers talk of the Bible as His-story. Interestingly, the word history is a modern coinage and does not appear in the Bible. The Bible uses the term recordings in the sense of written or verbal.
What we call as history is none other than testimony, which is written or verbally shared. History testifies time and what has happened. We accept as history when the testifier is reliable and trusted; otherwise, it becomes gossip or a tale.
God was aware of the error man makes in recording history; He made it a point that everything is written in time and not just shared verbally. It is for this reason that the Bible is the most reliable documentation ever. If we look at Islam, their prophet insisted on verbal recording only and forbade them to write (the word ‘Quran’ means ‘recite’). It was only a few who wrote; otherwise, there would have been no ‘holy book’ for them. It is also the reason why there are many errors/contradictions in it.
Jesus did many things during His 33years, not all of which He did or said are recorded. What is important is recorded, and we see in today’s scripture that Jesus prophesied that what the woman did would be recorded (believed to be Mary, the sister of Lazarus by some theologians, since they were of the same town and were well-to-do, also the woman was very comfortable in her approach, showing she knew Him).
This act was as important as His water baptism. Jesus did not need both (baptism of repentance or to be anointed), yet the acts were necessary to testify who He is and His purpose.
One of the greatest dreams most have is to be part of history, but one needs to understand that we as Christians are called to be history makers, for when we testify Christ and His Kingdom we too get testified.
[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You, Lord, created all things, but everything You did is not known to anyone other than You. You made sure that what is important for us to know is recorded, things that will help us know You and be saved. Lord, we pray we understand every word in the Bible is important and cannot be ignored…
This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
