Matthew 21:5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

A couple of days back, I was asked, “Can a woman lead a marriage if she is more spiritually mature than the man?” Guess what the answer is? YES, and the answer opens a Pandora’s Box of counter questions, quoting many scriptures of Paul.

Sadly, the people do not understand the scriptures they quote. They go by the text, not its understanding.

We have two facts: in a marriage, the husband plays the role of Christ, and wife/children as the Church, so husband is considered the head; which is true. The other fact is that in Christ (when one is spiritually growing), there is no man or woman; both are equal; this too is true. Both these facts seem to counter each other, which is not true.

God did not make women to be second fiddle to men. In spirit, both are the same, but in the flesh they are different, for man is made in the image of God and woman in the image of man.

The mathematical formula A=B, B=C, so A=C, is not spiritually valid, since it does not say man is equal to God, but that man is made in the image; the image can be a simple outline or just a shadow. Similarly, a woman is a shadow image of a man, thus although they do not look alike yet one can know man by knowing woman. Thus, to know God, we need to understand man and to understand man, we need to understand woman. Marriage if correctly understood, is a role play to understand the relationship between God and man / Christ and the Church.

It is only when they are spiritually mature, or the husband is more mature than the wife, then he is fit to play the role perfectly. The problem comes when the wife is more mature than the husband; in this case, the husband is unfit to guide/lead her, and if he still does, he will spiritually destroy both.

Another important point is that no one is spiritually identical; each one is unique from the others. We can understand this by Calling and the mission each one has. We may lead each other depending on our spiritual growth at that point. Spiritually unequally yoked is when one is a believer and another is not, or one has a burden to save souls, while the other may be just a believer. Two believers in a marriage are never unequally yoked.

Statutes change when spiritual factors change. Statutes are not Law, so they need to be understood, and the purpose is of greater importance than the text. The problem comes when the wrong one tries to lead.

Today’s scripture does not speak of the women of Zion/Sion, but includes men when it says daughters of Zion. It speaks of those spiritually growing and have not yet become Sons, for Sons of God are already saved and do not need to be saved or need a Saviour.

We all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ grow from children of God, to daughters of God, to Sons of God as we spiritually perfect the image of God in us. In baptism, we walk the journey from Egypt (lost sheep) to Israel (Sons of God).

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You, Lord, are full of Wisdom. You made the Heavens and when darkness came You made man who is lower than the Angels to fight the darkness. Although we were corrupt You made a way by Your Sacrifice for us to become Sons, equal to the Angels/ Heavenly beings. Lord we pray people do not go by what they see, or by the text but by its understanding, for nothing is made by You without reason…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
