2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

It is written that those amongst Christians are sheep and goats, those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, abide in Him, and those who believe in Him but reject/do not abide in Him, respectively. Today’s scripture speaks of ‘the god of this world’ who has blinded those who do not believe.

We know there is no other God other than our Almighty God, The Father. So what god is the scripture speaking of? Who is this god who has the power to blind them to not believe? Most would assume it is Satan, but that is not the truth.

If we look at the Greek text, the word translated as this world is ‘aion’, which does not refer to a place but a period of time and is mostly translated as ‘forever’. So the god which blinds them is no other god than our God.

Now the question comes as to why God blinds some and allows some to believe? Can we say salvation is not personal, but God-imposed or orchestrated?

It is only when we understand the reason why God created all things and why we as Christians should take salvation seriously and cannot take it for granted, that we will understand it is all about given preference and God as a reason to give us preference. He sees something in us that we do not see. It is only for this reason that He helps us so that what He sees in us can be achieved. We cannot take our preference for granted.

If we are Christians, let us not assume we will go to Heaven, for we may be goats and not sheep. Let us be thankful that the Lord has found us worthy to believe in Him, and thus let us take utmost care to abide in Him and be counted amongst the sheep and not the goats. The goats are saved from Hell but are condemned to the Lake of Fire, which was initially intended for Satan (denoted as a she goat amongst other things) and the fallen angels, all children of Satan.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You are Father, and Part of You humbled Himself and created all things for a greater purpose. Lord, we pray that we understand the great purpose so that we take life seriously, knowing that the things set before us are unimaginable. Lord, we thank You for finding us worthy to believe in You. We pray that we carry the burden to seek others whom You have found worthy, like us…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
