John 20: 6-7 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
Today’s scripture speaks of when the disciples came to investigate the tomb, they found the body of Jesus not there, but His linen clothes were on the floor, with the handkerchief/napkin which was placed on His face neatly folded and laid aside separately.
One can find this incident astonishing: why did He go to Hell and later be resurrected, leaving His garments behind, yet when He appeared later, He was wearing garments?
Everything that happened after He came from Jericho to Jerusalem until His death, resurrection and until His ascension can be understood only by understanding the books of Moses. Every sacrifice was fulfilled in Him, freeing us from all curses and sicknesses. When we claim them into our lives, we see the results.
We are called Priests because He handed over the mantle unto us by leaving His garments for us. A Priest, unlike a Man of God, is a representative of the people before God. We are set free from the bondages of sin and curses, but are made bondmen to the people, to save them as the Lord saved us.
[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You are Love and Merciful. As Your Sons, we are called to imitate You. Lord, we pray that we understand the importance of representing You to others. We pray we are not found without extra oil and not allowed to enter the gates of Heaven…
This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
