Hebrews 10:38, 39 Now the just shall live by faith: but if [any man] draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
We know Paul was behind the letter to the Hebrews, not just because of the style of writing, but also because of today’s scripture.
In today’s scripture, we see a person who backslides and does not accept correction is distanced. Paul, in his letter to Timothy, wrote about delivering to Satan those who rejected correction to the extent they were blaspheming things of the Kingdom of God. Paul had no arrangement with Satan to deliver them to him. Paul, being a Man of God, instead kept Satan away from those connected with him. What he said he delivered them to Satan, it simply meant he disconnected from them, thus opening them to Satan’s attacks. If we read Paul’s second letter to Timothy, we find Paul literally cursing them (causing judgment to come).
We do not realise that when we call one another brethren, we extend the umbrella of blessings and protection to others, or come under their umbrella. But when we disconnect, then if we are in the Lord, we open them to the works of Satan. To such people, Satan initiates their destruction. Paul allowed that as a last resort so that they would come to their senses through suffering of the flesh and thus turn back.
Our goal should be to save souls, even from the person themselves. So at times we are called to make harsh decisions, and we should not let emotions come between taking those decisions.
[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You, Lord, have called us to be Your Ambassadors in this world. We pray, Lord, we understand the responsibility that’s on our shoulders. We pray we do all that is possible in our hands to save people, even if we need to deliver them to Satan…
This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
