Ezekiel 31: 4 The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.

I have mentioned numerous times that names in the Bible have great meaning and purpose for understanding scriptures/prophecies.

Today’s scripture is about Assyria, and this is spoken to Egypt.

Egypt means ‘dual strait’; it speaks of the lost sheep, those who are of the Lord but living worldly lives, who have yet not had an encounter with the Lord.

Assyria means ‘step’ and speaks of worldly prosperity. The Assyrians were the most gruesome people, and their ways became an inspiration for Hitler; what he did not come close to the things that the Assyrians did. Only when we study them historically will we understand the hatred Jonah had for them and why he did not want God to forgive them, thus disobeying Him and running the other way when he was told to go to Nineveh, the capital of the Assyrian empire with a message of repentance. He knew they would be saved.

Cedar means ‘strong’ and is a wood that contains natural oils that repel insects (moths, ants) and resist decay, making it the preferred wood for sacrifice. It symbolising righteousness

Lebanon means ‘white’, symbolising purity.

Today’s scripture, the Lord speaks of those ‘good’ leaders in Churches or ministry whose righteousness, purity, and goodness seem to surpass that of Christ. Christ rebuked those He found in need of correction, but these people will not. Their ‘empathy’ surpasses God’s, and they say they pray for them but not to hurt or disturb them with correction.

God tells us in today’s scripture that, as these people prosper, they will become homes to spirits they are not aware of, and these spirits will begin to control them and cause great destruction to them and those connected to them.

Let me share an example. There is a preacher (Evangelist) whom I know well who has been a great inspiration to many and has played a hand in bringing many to know the Lord. He was highly gifted but not rooted in the Word; through his connection with foreign preachers, he was bitten by the prosperity bug. This went on with no one near him to correct him. He started giving titles to himself of Prophet, Apostle, Bishop, etc. When the wrath of God fell on him, he lost a son. This still did not lead to his repentance; he continued his ways, got caught in a financial scam, and was on the run along with his family. Just of late, I heard he is fighting for his life since one of his organs has totally failed. Ask anyone about him, and they will say he is the sweetest, loving person, one who goes out of his way to help someone. But only those who know him closely, his dark deeds and have spiritual discernment know the darkness he carried.

Let us not try to be holier than Christ. Let us understand that He is our Lighthouse. He warns us where we should and should not trend. Let us not seek the wealth and praises of this world, but seek the heavenly wealth and glory that is in the Lord.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You are Spirit, and Your Kingdom is not of this world. You made everything that exists symbolic of those things that are not visible. Lord, we pray, seek not shadows but the things that they symbolise. We pray we seek You above all…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Ezekiel 31:2-5-7, 10-13
2 Son of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness?
3 Behold, the Assyrian [was] a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs.
5 Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth.
6 All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations.
7 Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters.
9 I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that [were] in the garden of God, envied him.
10 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;
11 I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.
12 And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.
13 Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:

Habakkuk 1:13 [Thou art] of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, [and] holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth [the man that is] more righteous than he?

Matthew 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
