1 Peter 1: 18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, [as] silver and gold, from your vain conversation [received] by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
The word ‘conversation’ is actually ‘conduct’, so it does not talk of just verbal traditions but all kinds of traditions.
The words ‘blood of Christ’ are symbolic and not literal, it speaks of the sacrifice, not actual blood. It was shed to save us from the wrath of God. We were doomed to Hell (prison) to suffer our sins there till our spiritual life ends. But by our faith in His sacrifice, we break the curse of Hell since He rose from Hell.
I have seen many foolishly use the blood of Christ for protection from evil powers; they even cover their house, their earthly assets, with the blood of Christ. They do not realise they are either lifting evil powers to the level of God or are showing they give importance to earthly assets as much as they do to their life. The blood of the Pascal Lamb was applied to protect people from the wrath of God and not from Pharaoh or his army.
Let us be mindful of the importance and value of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and why He gave us His Spirit even after His sacrifice. His blood/sacrifice saves us from Hell, and His Spirit takes us along the Way (by making us more like Him) to Heaven. So let us not be fooled into following human traditions but follow His Spirit, the Spirit of Truth.
[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You, Lord, are Creator of all things that exist. There is nothing that we can offer You other than ourselves. We pray, Lord, we do not be foolish to bargain with You, with things that You have made. We pray, we understand the value of Your Sacrifice and not belittle it for protecting things of this world or from evil spirits…
This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
