Ezekiel 33:12 Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his [righteousness] in the day that he sinneth.

Today’s scripture can be no blunter. It says that on the day the wicked turns from his/her wickedness, he/she shall deliver himself/herself. It also says a person who is righteous all their lives, if on the Day of Judgment has sinned/not repented of that sin, his/her righteousness will not be able to save him/her.

Today’s scripture, if not understood well, is sure to cause hopelessness to anyone. Can anyone live without making a mistake? We are not Jesus Christ to be without blemish.

There is a difference between sin and sin nature. Sin is the mistake we make against the Kingdom of God, and sin nature/sinner is the one who keeps on making that mistake. Also, if a person is young/not mature, making a mistake once is not tagged as a continuous offender. Offence like stealing or taking something that is not theirs, once will not cause him or her to be tagged as a robber. But if they were mature or if they committed an offence that is serious, like murder, they will surely be tagged.

Let us understand that as we grow in the Lord, we are called to be perfect, like the Lord asked Abraham to walk before Him and be perfect.

When I got the scripture, I wanted to put one word as a title and went through various thesauruses, but could not find the right word, then I understood why Paul used the words ‘with fear and trembling’ instead of just one word.

We need to understand that we need to be ready for Judgment Day every day of our lives, for we never know when we will sleep in Him and stand before Him when He comes again. We cannot be relaxed at any moment, we are like soldiers on guard at the city wall. We are called to protect our own inner man and those of others, from corruption by the enemy. The enemy wants us to fail, so that we do not receive what they lost and more. The enemy does not usually come knocking on the door, but uses our misunderstandings, our weak desires, our lack of commitment, etc., to corrupt us.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You, Lord, set us on the path of righteousness by your sacrifice. You even gave us a Helper so that we walk on this path without falling. Lord, we pray we do not ever set down our guard anytime. We pray the moment we fall or err, we do not waste time, but repent/correct ourselves and get back on the path…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
