Haggai 2:2 Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,

The names in OT have meaning and purpose.

Zerubbabel means “sown in Babylon”
Shealtiel means “I have asked of God”
Joshua means “Jehovah is salvation”, the Hebrew name of Jesus
Josedech means “Jehovah is righteous”

In Haggai, we see a promise of assurance by the Lord that He is with them. He speaks of change not only on earth but even in the Heavens. The situation changes in Zechariah where Joshua is referred to as High Priest and Satan playing the persecutor, showering condemnations on Joshua, who is dressed in filthy garments symbolising he had taken the world’s iniquity on Him before the Angel and is given a change to fine garments and a makeover with a mitre (turban/headdress). In Haggai, we see the background reference is Judah, while in Zechariah, it is Jerusalem.

If we understand the scriptures, all of this is symbolic, and the difference lies in our moving from Jerusalem to Judah. The power and influence of Satan working on those who are new (drawn out of Babel/confusion) changes when we grow in the Lord. They may still be confused, but are yet protected, but if we have not grown, then they stand in danger of being condemned.

Let us understand the importance of our spiritual growth and how it affects not just us but also people around us and the world as a whole.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. Lord, You are Life. You are always growing, even though You are Perfect in every way. Lord, we pray we understand if we are not going ahead, we are backsliding for the world, and time keeps moving. We pray we keep seeking You and Your Kingdom, the treasures of Your Kingdom…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

[Reference Scriptures]
Zechariah 3:1-5
1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.
2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: [is] not this a brand plucked out of the fire?
3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.
4 And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.
5 And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.
