Luke 20:38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

Bible says God is Spirit. The word translated as spirit is the word breath, and breath does not refer to the air that we breathe in and out, but symbolises the life within.

God is Life; all life comes from Him or is made by Him. He alone has life within Himself, while all, including those in Heaven, receive a period of life. But since they dwell in Heaven, they have access to the Tree/River of Life and can renew their lives as and when necessary; therefore, they can live eternally.

When a person dies, their spirit continues to live until its term, which is thousands of years, so either they go to Hell (if they do not believe in the Lord) or sleep in Him (if they believe). Those who go to Hell are condemned to death; they suffer their sins until that life term is over, then they cease to exist. Those who sleep in Him rise on Judgment Day to be separated from those who abided in His Word (sheep) and those who did not (goats). The sheep enter Heaven while the goats are cast into the Lake of Fire/Sulphur, where they suffer not their sins but punishment from God, and it is worse than them suffering their own sins, since this place, unlike Hell, was not made for man but for the fallen angels. The sheep having access to the Tree of Life gain the ability to live eternally.

If we understand this, we will understand today’s scripture that God is the God of the living and not of the dead, and all live unto Him.

[Prayer Starter]
Lord, You are Almighty God. You are God, and You are Life. All life comes from You, for You created us. Lord, we pray that we understand this life we are given is for a purpose; it is only when we abide in that purpose that we can live eternally, as we can dwell in the upper Heavens. We pray we understand and live this purpose…

This prayer we make in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
